Why Reiki Alone May Not Be Enough

Many clients are attaining energy healing modalities such as Reiki to feel better – for emotional or physical ailments or complaints – and are finding only temporary relief.  Though they generally feel great right after a session, they are not able to sustain this energy and feeling.  The outside world offers many distractions, noises, challenges and decisions and in so getting caught up the energy replenished in these sessions is diminished yet again.

At a subsequent session it becomes evident that the body is in great need of an energetic replacement.  What then is needed to sustain the feeling and gradually feel better and better?

In observing clients, it has become evident that the same thinking that created the emotional/physical ailments is what is revisited over and over again.  It was Albert Einstein who told us:

“We can not solve our problems with the same level of thinking that created them”.

Research over the last several decades demonstrates that you cannot separate the mind, body and spirit when it comes to your overall health.  Overall health means that you exhibit wellbeing  physically, emotionally and spiritually. When all these parts are balanced and whole, you are truly physically and emotionally whole and healthy.

Consider how if you have ever said the following statements are how pertinent they are to this point:

  • “I’m so nervous, I feel like I have butterflies in my stomach”
  • “I had a gut feeling about him/her”
  • “You are getting on my last nerve”
  • “He/she broke my heart”
  • “You are acting like a thorn in my side”

You may laugh, but each time you say these and many more statements you are actually describing the physical sensation of your emotions. This shows you that your body is not acting independently from your thoughts and emotions.

Therefore, in Mind-Body therapy we need to address the level of the thinking which created the physical ailment in the first place. Though you may feel great after a Reiki session, if you think the same thoughts, carry out the same conversations and subject yourself to the same daily stressors, you will continue to create energetic blocks in your body appearing to make the Reiki either ineffective or temporary.

It is important therefore to establish a mind-body plan to get to the root of the beliefs, guilt, anger, stress and other harmful emotions which create the physical blocks within us in the first place.

What are my options?

Determine what drains your energy in any given day. A great way would be to start a journal since our days are so consumed it’s nearly impossible to recall every single detail.  Write down your emotions based on conversations, things seen or read, events and encounters. It’s important to get in touch with the feelings rather than pushing them aside and writing is another way we can lament these feelings.

Once you have a clearer idea of the reasons for what is draining your energy you can work with a mind-body, mindfulness or other therapist to assist you in discovering the belief systems which are brining on these emotional responses.

Our Approach
Our mind-body approach takes into account both healing from an energetic level – which includes Reiki and Meridian therapies – as well as on an emotional level used Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) methodologies.

MBSR is an established program shown to reduce symptoms of stress, anxiety, and depression.  In addition, it moves us closer to living a guilt-free, stress-free and more compassionate life.  Both self-compassion and self-love are cornerstones to MBSR which continues to be the cause of much distress in adults.
