Sugar Cravings: Could it be more than a sweet tooth?

Though by now we know that sugar has addictive properties which make us crave it more and more, what triggers that initial craving for sugar can be an imbalance which can be remedies by energy healing.

We’ve encountered more and more in clients an that their Solar Plexus – located just above the naval and home of the coeliac plexus, which innervates most of the digestive system – is either unbalanced, over-active or under-active.  Many are often uncertain what this means however when the symptoms are discussed, they can immediately see the connection.

An imbalance in the solar plexus can energetically look large, small or weak, spiraling quickly and sometimes in the wrong direction.   This translates to the following feelings:

  • Low self-esteem
  • Lack of boundaries
  • Co-dependency
  • Addiction (particularly to certain foods)
  • Anxiety
  • Judgment

An imbalanced solar plexus, if ignored and fully blocked, can also lead to the following physical ailments:

  • Overeating leading to weight gain and inability to loose weight
  • Ulcers (particularly in the abdominal area)
  • Digestive issues
  • Adrenal imbalances
  • Migraines
  • Diabetes
  • Arthritis
  • Nerve pain ex. Fibromyalgia

Cravings

The solar plexus is the focal point of your self-esteem, also known as your power center. It is associated with the digestive organs and metabolism. Addictive behaviors are also associated with the solar plexus which includes cravings for caffeine, sugar and carbohydrates.

As an integrative medicine practitioner, a quick indication that a client has an imbalances solar plexus is their cravings for quick fix carbohydrates. However, these foods which have a high glycemic index, actually deplete the solar plexus after a quick and temporary boost.

These foods include:

  • Desserts such as donuts, cakes, cookies, ice cream, muffins and candies
  • Fruit juices with added sugar
  • Processed and starchy snacks such as potato chips, tortilla chips and crackers
  • High starch vegetables such as potatoes and corn
  • White rice
  • White bread

If you are working on replenishing your solar plexus, these foods do just the opposite.

Though by proving a temporary boost they ail an imbalanced solar plexus temporarily, over time the solar plexus is becoming even weaker thereby cravings these foods over and over again for a temporary fix. This can ultimately lead to a range of health issues.

Restoring Balance

Energy healing therapies such as Reiki can determine if your solar plexus is weak. This is the first step to stopping this endless cycle and working towards a permanent fix.  We offer our clients with a guide to an imbalanced chakra which offers a variety of natural, self-care methods to move towards healing.

As with anything, recognition and a the intent to change is the first and most important step.
